At The Bird House, we start at this fundamental truth: our relationship with our hair is deeply emotional. When we walk by a window and see our reflection, we almost automatically fix our hair. When a visitor comes by, before we even answer the door we fluff our hair. When we’re getting ready for a party, we style our hair, as best as we can. And when something changes — if our hair dries out, thins, grays, grows heavy, splits at the ends, if the color fades — it affects us on a heart level.
For many of us, our hair is a deeply felt part of our identity. At The Bird House, that truth is where our styling begins. Our hope is that you leave our studio feeling emotionally boosted. That you leave with a sense of pleasure over your hair. That your hair looks and feels how you hoped it would. That it represents you.
In that spirit, our stylists offer a start-to-finish service, including a careful consultation before and after your style, an unhurried atmosphere, and a precise attention to quality and detail.
At The Bird House, we respect your relationship with your hair.
And we start there.
Please note that we are currently scheduling clients at least two weeks in advance, so we recommend booking ahead. Brooke Jordan Hunt, Owner
Named by Brooklyn Magazine and New York Magazine as one of New York’s top stylists, I’m still blown away that I get to do this incredible work in my own studio. After spending basically my entire life styling and cutting people’s hair, I became officially trained by the brilliant minds at Union Square’s Carsten Aveda Institute, where I learned the fine art of French haircutting and color chemistry. I also quickly grew to understand and appreciate the emotional connection we all have with our hair, and it’s a truth I carry with me during every appointment. After completing my training, I began working at a high-end salon, and in 2011, I opened my own studio. Opening The Bird House has been a wonderful and thrilling adventure, and it is such an honor to have you as clients and friends.
Megan Pearson, Master Stylist
Born and raised in North Carolina, I always knew I’d be a hair stylist. I started out by giving family and friends makeovers and by the time high school came around I was doing hair for everyone I knew. I graduated cosmetology school in 2009 and haven’t looked back. I spent a while as a haircut educator, passing on my knowledge and precision skills to fellow artists. Aveda trained, I love creating all shapes and color on hair but mostly I love giving people the hair they have always wanted. I can’t wait to see you in my chair!
Gina Pignatelli, Senior Stylist
With extensive training and high-end experience in both NYC and Philadelphia, PA, I am thrilled to be a part of The Bird House team. I began my training at Philadelphia’s Jean Madeline Aveda Institute, then was certified under DryBar’s rigorous training program, and additionally worked with the Glam Squad, under the creative direction of Frederik Fekkai veteran, Giovanni Vaccaro. I love creating both on-trend and classic looks through flattering cuts, vibrant color, meticulous barbering, and tailored styling techniques. My goal is that when you leave my chair, your unique look suits your face and personal style.
Melody Olson, Senior Stylist
I grew up in a gorgeous small town in Alaska, but despite the incredible beauty surrounding me, I always knew I would someday move away. So I was beyond excited when I took the leap in 2008. I moved from Nome, Alaska to New York City for beauty school at the Aveda Institute, and have since worked at some of New York’s top salons. I love it all, from curly hair to hair painting, and it’s my highest goal to use detailed precision to help my clients look and feel amazing. I can’t believe I get to spend my days doing this work—I wouldn’t trade that connection for anything!
Shannon Chalmers, Stylist
After growing up in Vermont, I moved to New York a few years ago to pursue my dream to be a hairstylist. I have loved working at The Bird House since I graduated from the Aveda Institute, and I have developed many advanced techniques as Brooke’s protégé. From creating soft silhouettes and textured tresses, to working with every color of the rainbow, it is a joy for me to help my clients feel and look their best. I can’t wait to meet you!
Kali Bracero, Junior Stylist
After graduating from the Paul Mitchell Academy in 2014, I worked in Park Slope for a high-end salon as an assistant. I always had a passion for doing hair and to make people feel refreshed and beautiful. My main priority is to help every client feel happy and comfortable with their experience, and I’m so thrilled to expand my skills as a junior stylist at the Bird House. Please note: Kali is a junior stylist, which means she is continuing to develop her skills as she works with clients. Thus, her prices are dramatically reduced and the time it takes her to complete services is extended.
Goldy Ilowitz, Junior Stylist
After working at a high-end wig salon in Brooklyn, I furthered my education at ARROJO Cosmetology school. I am honored to be at The Bird House, where I can learn from the wonderful team here, and provide first-class service to our clients. Please note: Goldy is a junior stylist, which means she is continuing to develop her skills as she works with clients. Thus, her prices are dramatically reduced and the time it takes her to complete services is extended.
|Bang Trim (Call to book)||
|Children’s Cut* (<12)||
|Clear Gloss or Toner||
|Bleach & Tone w/ Olaplex**|
All services include a shampoo and blow dry *except children’s cuts. If you have very curly or very thick, long hair and would like your hair blown out, please also select “additional styling” on the drop down menu when you book in order to ensure your stylist has enough time to blow out your hair. There will be a $25 surcharge as well due to the extra time requirement.
**We require Olaplex for these selected services, and have factored it into the price, because it is an incredibly effective, deeply restorative treatment. It reconnects bonds in your hair, which are naturally broken during color-treatments. This product is necessary in order to maintain the health of your hair during these intensive chemical processes. We also highly recommend, but do not require, Olaplex for all other services, particularly lightening services. It is $45. Request Olaplex at your next appointment.
Please note: we have a 24-hour cancellation policy. We require your credit card upon booking, and please note that if you cancel within that 24-hour period, you will be subject to a charge of 50% of the service price. If you no-show, you will be charged 100% of the service price. Because we are a by appointment only studio, our stylists depend on your timely arrival or cancellation. Thank you for your cooperation.

Brooke Jordan Hunt & Nicci Jordan Hubert
Owned and operated by Minnesota-expat “Jordan sisters,” Brooke Jordan Hunt and Nicci Jordan Hubert, The Bird House got its start in a tiny closet-sized studio in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, and quickly outgrew the space. Soon, Brooke and Nicci realized it was time to invest in a bigger, better studio.
So in early 2015, we moved into our current Gowanus location. Now, we’re the number one hair salon in Brooklyn and have been featured by Brooklyn Magazine and New York Magazine as a top NYC salon. We can’t believe how far we’ve come! We’re so honored to be in this burgeoning community in Brooklyn, and are beyond proud to have a team of beautiful, excellent stylists working with us. The Bird House is truly a labor of (sisterly) love!
