Co-founded by sisters Brooke Jordan and Nicole Jordan Hubert in 2011, The Bird House got its start in a tiny closet-sized studio in Carroll Gardens, and quickly outgrew the space. Soon, The Bird House expanded into its flagship Gowanus location. Now, with an additional salon in Bushwick helmed by our incomparable partner Ash Therese, The Bird House is one of the top hair salons in Brooklyn.
We’ve been featured in New York Magazine, Vogue, Allure, Time Out New York, NYLON, Self, Brooklyn Magazine, among many others. We are proud to serve Brooklyn with a team of beautiful and incredibly skilled stylists. The Bird House is truly a labor of (sisterly) love.

Cancellations & No-Shows
We have a 24-hour cancellation policy for appointments scheduled for less than 5 hours, and a 48-hour cancellation policy for appointments scheduled for 5 hours or more. We are a by-appointment-only salon, and our stylists rely on your timely cancellation. Should you need to cancel or reschedule within this cancellation window, you will be charged 50% of your service price. If you no-show, you will be charged 100%. After three no-shows, you’ll be limited to making same-day appointments only, paid in advance. Note: If, when you arrive at the salon, you opt not to receive one of the services you were booked for, it is considered a late-cancellation and you may be charged 50% of that service (this does not apply if your stylist suggests an alteration to your service).
Credit Cards
We require a credit card on file to secure your appointment and for ease of use, we’ll store your card for future appointments. Please let us know if you’d prefer for us not to store your card on file. If you’re not comfortable leaving your card on file, we cannot secure your appointment but you’re welcome to give us a call an hour before the time you’d like to come to see if the appointment is still available, and we’ll happily book it for you at that point.
Timeliness
Please arrive on time for your appointment. If you are more than 15 minutes late, we may need to reschedule you in which case you will be charged the 50% late-cancel fee.
Adjustments
It is SO important to us that you love your hair. If there’s anything that isn’t feeling right we truly want to know so we can perfect it for you. Hairdressing is both a science and an art and there are so many variables that could impact the final result. So please call or email the salon within 2 weeks of your appointment and we’ll have you back in for any necessary adjustments as soon as possible. Please know that if you’ve simply had a change of heart, we’ll ask you to book another appointment.
Appointment Changes
As we manage our schedule, may need to change your appointment time slightly, between 15 and 30 minutes, due to the limitations of online booking. We will be in touch if that becomes necessary. Thanks for your understanding!
Credit Card Processing Fee
We charge a 3% processing fee, which helps contribute to the merchant services fees we pay. If you would like to avoid this fee, feel free to pay with cash and we’ll be happy remove the fee when requested. We do not have an ATM machine in the studio, however, so be sure to plan ahead.
Kindness & Inclusion
We expect kindness and inclusion not only from our team but also from our clients. We insist that our team treat every single person they interact with at our salon with utmost respect and dignity. There have been a few instances (mercifully, very few) where guests have returned that kindness with disrespectful or insulting language to members of our team. In those instances we have had to ask those clients not to return. Please know that we reserve the right to invoke this policy, entirely at our discretion, for any guests who choose to be disrespectful in our salon.
Deposits
We require a non-refundable 50% deposit for all extension appointments and any appointment 5 hours and over, and these appointments have a 48-hour cancellation policy.
Photos
Any photos we take of you are the property of The Bird House and may be used for marketing and branding. Please let us know if you would not like your photo taken or used. (Also, if we don’t ask to take your photo, don’t worry! It doesn’t mean we don’t love your hair… in fact, odds are pretty damn good that we’re in love with it. But there are many factors that go into whether we end up taking client photos, including whether the stylist has time, whether we have good light, etc).
Environmental Stewardship Fee
We are Green Circle certified! The U.S. salon industry creates millions of pounds of waste each year, but at The Bird House, you can rest assured that your visit is sustainable and practically waste-free. As a proud member of Green Circle salons, we divert 95% of our waste from landfills and waterways.
This certification also looks at our energy, lighting, water, cleaning products, and every part of your salon experience. It guides our operations to minimize impact on our planet and its resources. The $3 Environmental Stewardship Fee on your bill helps fund the reduction of the carbon footprint of your visit. Without the ESF, this impactful program could not exist. With this small contribution, you are partnering with us to make positive green change.

What’s included in the service price?
Price transparency is very important to us and our prices are as all-inclusive as possible, so there shouldn’t be any surprises at checkout.
That said, we want to give you the absolute best hair experience we can, which sometimes means changing the service you booked to something more tailored to your needs. We will always confirm any price difference during your consultation, particularly if the change is more expensive.
All services include a thorough consultation and finishing (though if you have very long or very thick/curly hair and would like your hair blown out please book “Additional Time” or “Blow dry w/ Curly Cut”).
If you’re not quite sure what to book, give us a call and we’ll be happy to book you a complimentary consultation.
Why is there a range of prices listed with each service?
Our prices vary based on the level of expertise of the stylist. When you choose a stylist on our booking page, you’ll be able to see their specific price for that service.
How long should I wait to wash my hair after I get my color done?
We recommend waiting 2-3 days because it takes about that long for the cuticle layer of your hair to fully close, trapping the color molecule and allowing for longer lasting hair color.
What forms of gratuity are accepted?
Tips are truly appreciated, and we accept cash or Venmo.

Will I receive an appointment notification?
Our booking system is set to deliver notification and confirmation emails, but glitches happen, so please add your appointment to your personal calendar. Please also be sure to add us to your known contacts so that our emails don’t go to spam.
What brand of color products do you use?
For permanent, demi- and semi- colors we use Redken; for bleach we use Redken, Wella, Pulp Riot and Davines; for creative colors we use Pulp Riot.
How long will my appointment last?
Our haircut appointments are scheduled for 1 to 1.5 hours and our color service times vary but in general will last anywhere from 2.5 to 5 hours.
How do I know which color service to book?
We include a detailed description of each of our colors services here, but if you’re still not sure what to book, give us a call or shoot us an email so we can help you figure out what’s right for you and/or schedule your complimentary consultation.
Do you bring in training models for your classes and new artists?
Yes! If you’d like to volunteer to be a model please email us at models@birdhousenyc.com.
What if I have to cancel my appointment because of Covid?
If you have Covid or need to care for someone with Covid, we’ll ask you to provide us with either a photo of a positive rapid test or a copy of a positive PCR test.
Please contact us if you have any questions. We’re here to help!
