GOING LIGHTER FAQs

(menu below)

Which techniques will my stylist use to lighten my hair?

Our highlighting services are tailored just for you. During your consult, you and your stylist will decide on a strategy and then your stylist will employ any number of techniques like balayage, babylights, foils, teasylights, foilyage, etc to make it happen.

Do I need a full highlight or a partial?

A partial will focus on lightening the hair from around your face to right behind your ears to the top of your head. A full will lighten all sections of your hair. This doesn’t mean that every single piece of hair will be lightened (that’s a bleach & tone!), but rather that your whole head of hair—from the front of your hairline to the back—will be brightened.

What methods do you use to protect the integrity of my hair during a lightening service?

All of our lightening services include a bond repair treatment to protect the integrity of your hair’s health. We also use high-quality color and hair-care products to protect your hair. If your hair is already compromised, we’ll discuss strategies for bringing your hair back to a healthier state and we’ll never do a service if at the expense of your hair health. Bonder is not guaranteed to completely prevent damage, though, but just like you wouldn’t get in a car without putting on your seatbelt, we won’t bleach your hair without a bonder.

Can I still lighten my hair if I’ve previously used box dye?

If you have box-dyed hair and want to go lighter at all, we recommend you book a consultation for a Color Correction. Box-dye can be incredibly challenging to break through and requires a lot of technique, toning, and time, so it may take more than one session to achieve your lightening goals.

Does my blonding service include a gloss?

Yes! Your stylist will almost always choose to give you a gloss after lightening your hair, so we include the price in the cost of your service. That said, if you’d like your finished result to be any shade of red, please book “Natural Red Gloss” as an add-on to your lightening service.

A Little Lighter | 220-380

Book if you’re looking for touches of sun-kissed brightness. Whether you’re a natural blonde or a light-to-medium brunette, book A Little Lighter if you want the effect to be subtle yet noticeable. You’re not going for a big change here; rather, what you want is to add a sense of brightness and dimension to your existing color. Don’t book this service if you have very dark hair—instead, book A Lot Lighter.

A Lot Lighter | 245-435

Book A Lot Lighter if you have blonde to medium brunette hair and want its shade to be much lighter than it currently is OR if you have naturally very dark hair and want to lighten your hair at all, even if you’re not trying to be blonde. Lightening dark hair is a more complicated and time-consuming process than it is for lighter to medium shades.

Super Light | 115-215 per hour

This service requires an in-person complimentary consultation—contact us to book!

Going Lighter for Textured Hair | 290-435

Book this service if you have curly, coily, or kinky hair and want to add dimension, brightness, or sun-kissed tones while wearing your natural texture. Your stylist will work with your curl pattern to place highlights strategically—so they look beautiful both when your hair is in its natural state and when it’s stretched or styled. We’ll talk through how the color will show up on your specific texture, discuss maintenance, and make sure you leave with highlights that move beautifully with your curls.

Bleach & Tone | 115-215 per hour

This service requires an in-person complimentary consultation—contact us to book!

A bleach & tone is for you if you’re looking to lighten every strand of your hair from root to tip. There are tons of factors for your stylist to consider when doing this service, including whether your hair has been previously color treated, whether you hair is long or short, light or dark, etc. Because of that, we charge based on the amount of time/amount of sessions the effect you’re going for will require.

COVERING GRAYS

All-Over Color | 115-225

Book if you’ve already been coloring your hair or covering your grays and simply need a touch up at the root. Please note: this service does not include highlights. If you’re looking to get highlights along with your Root Touch Up, book one of our Blending Grays services.

Root Touch Up | 90-185

Book this service if you’re covering roots and also need a gloss. Or, book if you are just looking for a rich, dimensional color to showcase the color you were born with and/or always wanted! If you have blonde hair and want to go much darker, book Going Darker: Dramatically Darker. Please note: this service does not include highlights.

Partial Root Touch Up | 75-130

A Partial Root Touch Up is a perfect stopgap for when peskier grays crop up between Root Touch Ups. It’s also great for those with small sections of grays they want covered. Book a Partial Root Retouch if:

-You only need partial coverage. You can determine whether this is you by mentally drawing a line from the hairline around your face to just behind your ears, then up to your crown. If that is the only section of your hair you need covered, a Partial Root Touch Up is for you.

-You have between one and three streaks or small sections of grays found anywhere on your head that need coverage. Or,

-Pesky grays tend to crop up between your regular Root Touch Ups, which would typically be found on your part line, your hairline, or the hair around the nape of your neck.

BLENDING GRAYS

Dimensional Gray Blending | 240-400

Book this service if you want to blend your grays by adding dimension to your overall color. Your stylist will use highlights, lowlights, or a combination of both to strategically lighten or deepen your tone—whatever makes your grays less visible while keeping your hair natural-looking and full of movement. This works particularly well for natural blondes and light-to-medium brunettes, but can be adapted for darker hair as well.

Sheer Gray Coverage | 115-200

Book this service if you’re looking for translucent coverage of your grays. They won’t be gone completely, but they’ll be seamlessly blended in. We use ammonia-free, semi-permanent color for this service, which means it will fade out after about 4-6 weeks, leaving an easy fade to your original color without a harsh root line.

EMBRACING GRAYS

Gray Illumination | 160-255

Book this service if you’re looking to brighten your grays and eliminate brassiness while adding incredible shine and softness. This service starts with a detoxifying treatment to remove buildup, followed by a custom gloss to refine tone and enhance your natural silver. Finished with Oribe’s incredibly opalescent Silverati Shampoo and Conditioner for luminous, polished results.

Gray Transition | 265-400

Book this service if you’ve been covering your grays and want to begin the slow shift toward embracing them. This is a gradual process that uses strategic highlighting, lowlighting, and toning over multiple appointments to blend your natural gray as it grows in. We’ll create a customized plan based on your starting point and how quickly you want to transition.

Gray Transformation | Price Per Hour

Book this service if you’ve been doing full gray coverage and want to remove that color to get as close to your natural gray as possible—all in one appointment. This is a more intensive process that may include color removal, toning, and will likely require a haircut to remove any remaining colored ends. We’ll discuss realistic expectations and timing during your consultation.

All-Over Color | 115-225

Dramatically Darker | 195-305

Traditionally called a “double process” or “tint back,” book this service if you have light hair and want to go much darker. If you’re a natural blonde or if your hair has been bleached, darkening it requires multiple steps to achieving an even, rich tone. Dramatic darkening is the service to book if your best friend convinced you blondes had more fun, but your social media posts from when you were a brunette prove otherwise.

Dim the Lights | 215-335

Book this service, which is also known as “reverse balayage,” if you currently have highlights and want to keep that sun-kissed effect but also deepen the color. Your stylist will apply a combination of carefully applied highlights and lowlights to give your hair an overall darker appearance while maintaining your dimension.

Gloss w/ Bonder | 135-235

Adding bonder to your gloss makes your hair not only perfectly toned, but also unbreakably strong and obsessively touchable, and it will extends the life of your color too. They may call you greedy for wanting to have it all, but we’ll never judge. (See our Bond Repair Treatment in our Treatments & Styling section for more info!)

Note: We don’t offer a root touchup option here, because reds always require a gloss.

Creative color is a fun, varied, and often fussy treatment. There are tons of factors to consider when getting creative hair colors, including whether your hair has been previously color treated or not, whether your hair is long or short, light or dark, etc. Do you want opal hair or simply a bit of face-framing purple balayage?

Because of the wonderful diversity of creative color treatments, we need to consult with you to determine price, the amount of appointments it may require (often, achieving the fashion color look you want requires multiple appointments), and the amount of time you’ll need to be in the chair for each service.

We use Pravana & Pulp Riot for our creative colors.
