Brooke is no longer actively styling behind the chair.
Named by Brooklyn Magazine and New York Magazine as one of New York’s top stylists, I’m still blown away that I get to do this incredible work in my own studio. After spending basically my entire life styling and cutting people’s hair in the midwest, I became officially trained at Carsten Aveda Institute shortly after I moved to New York in 2008, where I learned the fine art of French haircutting and color chemistry. In 2011, I decided to step out on my own and opened a small studio in Brooklyn. I knew that I genuinely loved the art of hairdressing, but I quickly grew to understand and appreciate the emotional connection we all have with our hair, and it’s a truth I carry with me during every appointment. Opening The Bird House has been a wonderful and thrilling adventure, and it is such an honor to have you as clients and friends. She/Her.

Growing up, I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit. I used to think through various businesses I could open, dreaming of being in charge. Maybe it’s the Capricorn in me, but I’ve always been bossy… So when my sister, Brooke, opened a one-chair hair studio in what was basically a closet in Carroll Gardens, I was ready to put those aspirations into practice. Together, we moved her from that little studio to our current location, and it’s been an absolute dream come true. Building this business hasn’t been easy, but it’s been so beautiful, and we’re very proud of the space & team we’ve built. It is my greatest hope that at The Bird House, you experience more than just a great haircut and color, but that you feel you’ve found your hair home. She/Her.

LEVEL 5—MASTER STYLIST

I have been in the hair world for over 20 years and have experience in many aspects of it: as an educator, a stylist behind the chair, a platform artist with Rusk, and as a salon owner. Opening two salons in Brooklyn gave me incredible insight into the industry and in myself, and what I realized over time was that focusing my attention on my craft and my clients was what I loved most. The relationships that I build with my clients is my favorite thing about hairdressing and I’m so happy to be focusing my energy on it. I love cutting curls, creating dimension and brightness in natural hair color, formulating natural reds and cutting hair in a way that grows in effortlessly. My hair journey started when I was very young. My sister was pursuing cosmetology in Kosovo and would bring me with her to school. After the war there in 1999, she wasn’t able to continue her training but would sit in front of the mirror blowing out her curly hair section by section, and it became like a meditation for me to watch her. Later, I was trained at The Salon Professional Academy in Nashville, Tennessee where I then became an educator. Although I loved teaching and the connection I had with my students I decided to start my journey behind the chair where I focused on building a safe environment to hear my clients’ stories and help them build a look that represents their deepest selves. My roots are in shaggy cuts and mullets but with the flick of my wrist I’ll create a soft long-layered shape that will grow out effortlessly. My heart is in enhancing the beauty of everyone’s natural texture through razor and precision based cutting, and in creating soft dimensional color. She/They.

From Long Island, I always knew I wanted to live in NYC and have a career where I could express my creativity. After being in school for just a short time, I knew I’d made the right choice. Hair dressing is, it turns out, a perfect mixture of anthropology and art. As a hair dresser, I get to play with color and shape, but I also get to be a student of humanity. I specialize in cuts and color that are easy to work with at home and that give my clients that effortless look. After getting my BA in Theater, I furthered my education by attending Arrojo Cosmetology. Soon after, I was offered the opportunity to be Brooke’s apprentice for a year and am now behind the chair full time. I love doing crisp bobs, bright blondes, and fiery red heads, among so much else. My ultimate goal as a hairdresser is to make my clients, regardless of hair textures or type, feel as radiant as that tiny kid who got to feel like a queen for a day. She/Her.

I always knew I wanted to be in a field where I’m socializing and constantly meeting new people. But figuring out my place in the world more specifically was difficult, until one day I woke up and decided to attend cosmetology school at Aveda NYC. It was a bit of an impulsive decision, but the best decision I ever made! Making people feel like the best version of themselves is a dream come true—a dream I didn’t even realize I had! I love working with curly hair, creative colors, and creating a perfectly finished look. In my free time I am a devoted plant mom, and I love to experience outdoor life with my two pups. Despite growing up in this busy city, I like to live a really chill and laid back life. She/Her.

From Long Island, I always knew I wanted to live in NYC and have a career where I could express my creativity. After graduating from Hunter College with a degree in anthropology, I didn’t experience the fulfillment I’d hoped for from my post-graduate jobs. As fascinating as anthropology is, my career path lacked creative expression so I decided to attend Arrojo Cosmetology School. I have training in both scissor and razor techniques and enjoy combining the two for most cuts. When not in the salon you can find me cuddling in bed with my cat. Lucy, or wandering around Prospect Park on a nice day. She/Her.

After moving to New York from California to pursue my passion for hair and fashion, I attended Aveda Institute in Manhattan. I have always been artistic and love working with my hands, so hairdressing is a perfect fit. I love helping people feel their best and I truly care for my clients’ well-being. Given that’ I’m a Californian at heart, it’s no surprise that I love creating blondes and creative colors. I love the ocean, I listen to a lot of different genres of music, and occasionally pick up the guitar. I’m looking forward to continuing to broaden my skills at The Bird House and I can’t wait to see you in my chair! She/Her.

Growing up in a small Southern town, going to the hair salon was intertwined with being a part of our community. We’d all leave the salon feeling beautiful and ever since I was young I wanted to be a part of that experience. I attended Arrojo here in NYC and began my career at The Bird House. I have had the opportunity to learn from the best of the best here, and I’m honored to now put everything I’ve learned to practice. My specialties include blonding, reds, and curly cuts. Whenever I’m not in the salon, I love hanging out with my pups, Dixie and Amos, and trying new restaurants with my husband. She/her.

I have always been a passionate, detail oriented, and artistic individual with a love for beauty and expression. I grew up in theatre, and found a deep love for hair and makeup through my backstage experiences. After getting a BFA in Musical Theatre, I studied at the Aveda Institute NY, and my hair experience also includes film/tv, theatre, celebrities, and fashion. My favorite services are transformational haircuts, natural blonding, and updo/event styling, but every client experience is a treat, and I love tackling your hair goals collaboratively. I carefully consider your face shape, lifestyle, and personal aesthetic when I work, and my goal is to help you express your most confident, truest self. She/her.
